Dress from The Wizard of Oz expected to fetch significant sum at auction

One of the blue and white dresses from The Wizard of Oz is expected to fetch €1.1 million at auction. The world-famous 1939 film, in which Judy Garland plays Dorothy Gale skipping down the yellow brick road, remains iconic. The blue and white dress Garland wore in the film is now heading to the auction block.

A drama teacher at The Catholic University of America in Washington received the dress as a gift in 1973 from Hollywood actress Mercedes McCambride. The garment was lost not long after, but was found in a bag during renovations last summer. On May 24, the dress will be auctioned by Bonhams safe house in Los Angeles.

This is not the first time that a costume from The Wizard of Oz has gone under the hammer. Another dress with a blouse that Garland wore in the film sold for more than €1,4 million in 2015. De Afraid Leeuw's costume was also auctioned and fetched almost €2014 million in 2,9.
