Faster than sound: the Sky OV concept
Oscar Viñals, the creative mind behind OVI's Design, recently unveiled his latest brainchild. The so-called innovative Sky OV concept strives for groundbreaking performance in the areas of speed, efficiency and sustainability, making it a striking highlight in the world of aviation design.
The futuristic aircraft breaks with convention and embraces advanced technologies to reach a speed of up to 1.841 km/h with a capacity for 200 passengers. The Sky Public Transport concept, which travels 1,5 times the speed of sound, represents Viñals' commitment to turning science fiction fantasies into reality.
What is immediately noticeable about the Sky OV aircraft is its streamlined arrow-shaped silhouette, reminiscent of a fighter jet. In addition, the wings can be folded when not in use, saving valuable space in the hangar. The innovation extends to the bladeless jet engines, inspired by Dyson's engine for the electric Airbus A320E. The engines use the so-called “Fluidic Propulsion Air Multiplier” (FPAM) system, which creates a consistent airflow without visible blades.
Oasis of comfort
The Sky OV engines also use pulse detonation. So as not to bore you further with this; controlled explosions generate extra thrust. According to Viñals, this allows the plane to travel four to five times the speed of sound. He emphasizes that this system can not only deliver more thrust, but also consumes 50 percent less fuel than a small turbojet, which of course provides significant benefits in the aviation sector.
Measuring just over 44 meters in length, the Sky OV is designed to comfortably transport up to 200 passengers and two crew members. Although no images of the interior are available (yet), the creator assures that the cabin will be an oasis of comfort, equipped with “all kinds of amenities and many luxurious gadgets”.
