PROJECT OCEAN: SUSTAINABLE & LUXURY

The boating industry is playing catch-up in a sustainable way; electric boating is becoming increasingly popular and the manufacturing process is also moving with the times. In 2022, for example, high-speed boat manufacturer Arksen will launch a spectacular yacht made from recycled aluminum and plastic bottles. This environmentally conscious, luxurious 25-meter vessel will bear the name Project Ocean.Text: Larissa Schaule Jullens

Explore the sea

Project Ocean is currently under construction at the Wight Shipyard Company. This durable Explore series was created specifically to push the boundaries of marine design. The showpiece must be sleek, robust and above all environmentally friendly, and the experts at Humphreys Yacht Design are taking care of that. First of all, the hull is designed in an efficient way to reduce emissions. In addition, the entire boat is made of recycled aluminum and this can be reused - at the end of its life. Also, Project Ocean has full hybrid propulsion. With a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of between 9 and 11 knots, this means that no destination is unachievable. Also, the luxury ship will be equipped with solar panels that provide carbon-free energy. Even the luxury furniture is covered in fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles. Four cabins, including a master suite, will accommodate 12 people on board. The construction of Project Ocean will take a total of 18 months and it is expected that sea trials can be held in the spring of 2022.
