These new sculptures adorn Rijksmuseum's gardens

The statues of the leading British sculptor Barbara Hepworth can be admired in Rijksmuseum's gardens until October 23, 2022.

They rarely leave their permanent location, but an exception is made for the gardens of the Rijksmuseum. The statues of the British sculptor are here until October 23, 2022 Barbara hepworth to admire. 

Barbara Hepworth (1903-1975) is considered one of the pioneers of modernism in sculpture, a movement from the early 20th century that breaks with tradition and introduces innovative forms of expression. Characteristic of Hepworth is the breaking through the block of stone with holes. Hepworth is considered a role model for younger generations. In her time she was one of the few female artists. Work from private collections will also be on display, such as Hepworth's last major multi-part work Conversation with Magic Stones. Piet Mondrian 

In 1937 Barbara Hepworth and husband helped Ben Nicholson the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian to get from Paris to London and avoid the advancing Nazism. Their friendship was one of the reasons why Hepworth stylistically referred to Mondriaan in 1966 with Construction (Crucifixion). Salisbury Cathedral has loaned this special work to the Rijksmuseum.
