Remarkable mysticism

The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé is named after its maker and chief engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut and is one of only two prototypes built at the time. The unique design, with the characteristic gull-wing doors, as well as the innovative technology, have given the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé a remarkable mystique that continues to this day. In addition, the excellent driving performance thanks to the unique racing technology. The car was exhibited in 2018 Louwman Museum in The Hague.

Record price

The sale of the icon took place during an auction at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, in collaboration with RM Sotheby's. The invited guests included selected Mercedes-Benz customers and international car and art collectors. Ultimately, the car was sold to a private collector for a record price of €135 million; this amount makes it the most valuable car of all time.

With the proceeds of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé a worldwide Mercedes Benz Fund established to provide study and research grants in the field of environmental science and decarbonization to young people.
