For the John Heitinga edition of MASTERS he traveled to Manchester, where the Heitinga family lived between 2009 and 2014. The fifth largest city in England has a rich industrial history, is home to two of the largest clubs in the Premier League and was the center of innovation in British pop music in the XNUMXs with leading bands such as Joy Division, Happy Mondays and The Smiths .

King Street Townhouse

This boutique hotel is housed in an Italian Renaissance building designed by local architect Edward Salomons. The forty rooms and suites provide a wonderful retreat in the city center and have a soothing design. From trendy lamps in the shape of old-fashioned light bulbs to carefully selected books on the shelves, the attention to detail is clearly visible. John Rylands Library

Bookworm or not, a visit to the photogenic John Rylands Library is a highlight. Like being in a Harry Pottermovie you have arrived at. Here you will find the oldest and most special books in the world and the high ceilings with beautiful windows are fantastic. Named after a 40.000th century English entrepreneur and philanthropist, the library has one of the UK's largest collections of books, archives and manuscripts – more than XNUMX books, so take your time.

Adam Reid ate The french

The French opened in 1903 and is one of the first Michelin-starred restaurants in Britain. Manchester-born Adam Reid joined as head chef in 2013 and became chef patron three years later. He achieved multiple awards at The French, before winning the BBC's prestigious Great British Menu competition with his signature dish 'Golden Empire'. In 2016, Adam had the historic restaurant redesigned and the official name was changed to Adam Reid at The French. The menu showcases Adam's creative culinary talents, offering modern British cuisine that consistently delivers excellent flavours, using the finest seasonal produce. The dishes evolve every few days, so that regular customers can always count on a surprise here.

Cloud 23

Located on the 23rd floor of the iconic Beetham Tower, Cloud 23 is more than just a bar. The unique location offers panoramic views of the Manchester skyline and is renowned for its creative and innovative cocktails. Every cocktail on the menu here pays tribute to an iconic moment in the city's history. Order a drink, take a seat behind the floor-to-ceiling windows and enjoy a wonderful evening out. There is a strict dress code, so make sure you look stylish.
