As the founder of Brigitte Hamers Fine Concepts in Design and Proluca Interiors, Brigitte Hamers translates personal stories into striking interiors every day. Looking ahead to her participation in MASTERS SUMMER EDITION, MASTERS spoke to her about the living trends of 2025: “Fortunately, there will be more color in the interior,” she says. She also tells us which interior trend she thinks will never return and she already gives us a sneak peek of a brand new brand launch…
Which interior trends of 2025 will you fully embrace – and which will you consciously let pass you by?
“Fortunately, there is a bit more colour in the interior. Think of coral, purple, deep pink and even a bit of yellow. I fully embrace that. What I consciously leave alone are the primary colours in large areas: too trend-sensitive. You often regret that quickly, and we stand for sustainability. An interior should last a long time and you should be happy with it for a long time.”
What is the trend in interior design as we speak and what will it become?
“We’ll stick with organic shapes for a while. In terms of fabrics, you can see that teddy is on the way out. What’s interesting is that hardware like stainless steel and polished nickel is slowly making a comeback. Not shiny chrome, but matte and brushed silver. A beautiful, classic touch.”
How do you balance trend sensitivity and timelessness in your work?
“Accessories! They give you the freedom to play with trends. With wallpaper, for example, you can do something crazy; you stick it on the wall and you can easily replace it. I believe in an interior with a wow factor. That can be an unexpected item, or just something that makes you feel at ease right away. Something that puts a smile on your face.”
“I am basically a huge chatterbox, but when it comes to interior design, I am a very good listener”
And how do you ensure that people's personalities are also reflected?
“I am basically a huge chatterbox, but when it comes to interiors, I am a very good listener. I observe a lot, ask the right questions. In the past, you mainly saw interiors with a clear signature of the designer. Now I see a shift due to platforms like Pinterest. Everyone comes here with a mood board. That allows us to work much more personally.
I also look at what someone is wearing, what kind of house they have, if they have children or pets. I want to work from the outside in. And if people have good pieces that they are attached to, then we build something beautiful around that. I always want to see that first. Then I can create something that really suits them.”
Proluca Interiors will be at MASTERS SUMMER EDITION again this year. What can visitors expect?
“A feast for the eyes! We take people into our world of exclusive project design. With our white-glove delivery service we can deliver a complete house; from furniture to fragrance plan, from towel to art object. In addition, we present our special promotional gifts. And… we are launching an insanely cool new brand. Stay tuned…''
Finally: a quick lap
Last item you added to your interior yourself?
“A makeover of my garden set! New cushions, beautiful outdoor candles; wonderful. The garden is a party again.”
If you could choose one item, what would really impress everyone?
“A beautiful vase, as an object, not just for flowers. Or a Hermès cushion. They are rare and beautiful.”
Most beautiful hotel interior you've ever been to?
“Four Seasons in Florence. I got married there. An old palazzo, beautifully restored. Magical.”
Design classic that you would like to have in your home someday?
“A design by Giò Ponti. His influence can still be seen in many contemporary Italian design brands.”
Looking back, what item was your biggest mistake ever?
"I've gone through my whole house in my mind, but I just can't think of it. I've never really bought anything that I later really regretted. If I add something to my interior, it's a well-considered choice.''
Which interior trend do you hope never comes back?
“The bright fluorescent interior. Uninviting, cold; that should never become fashionable again.”
