Winter is in full swing: rain, wind and the occasional hailstorm. Now is the time to seek out the warmth of a museum. Whether you like fashion, mystery or immersive video and sound installations, these five exhibitions will turn your dull day into a golden day…

Nick Cave – The Devil: A Life

We know Nick Cave as the musician behind songs like Into My Arms, but did you know that he once studied visual arts? With 'The Devil: A Life' he shows a completely new side of himself. With seventeen hand-painted ceramic figures he tells the life of the devil in the series, from his birth to his death. Museum Voorlinden has acquired the entire series.

“Staffordshire flatbacks are originally mass-produced mantelpiece figurines, but in the hands of Nick Cave they become art. This deeply personal series of sculptures uses powerful colours and compositions to tell the story of the devil as an everyday man shaped by triumph, sorrow and remorse,” says Suzanne Swarts, director of Voorlinden. 

The exhibition can be seen until March 9 at Museum Voorlinden.

DIOR – A New Look 

The fashion exhibition DIOR – A New Look at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag is a tribute to the unparalleled vision of Christian Dior and his successors. Dior's iconic 'New Look' from 1947, with its narrow waists, full skirts and refined silhouettes, heralded a new era in fashion and made Paris the centre of haute couture once again. The exhibition not only shows Dior's own revolutionary designs, but also how current Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, translates the heritage into contemporary fashion with a feminist slant. 

The exhibition can be seen at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag until March 2.

DREAMS by Andrés Reisinger

Step into a hypnotic world where digital and physical merge during the exhibition DREAMS by Andrés Reisinger at the Moco Museum Amsterdam. This leading artist is known for his groundbreaking work that blurs the lines between reality and imagination. For DREAMS Reisinger creates an interactive experience in which materiality and immateriality come together in an impressive way. Highlights include the physical installation Take Over Elastic and the digital video artwork How I Write My Stories, both exploring the fluidity of creation and space. The result? An immersive art experience that shows how digital and physical worlds seamlessly complement each other. 

DREAMS can be seen at the Moco Museum Amsterdam until July 7. 

Around Mondrian's Hut 

From February 4, 2025, Singer Laren will present the exhibition Around Mondrian's Hut, an ode to 30 years of Dooyewaard Foundation. This foundation is committed to preserving historical studios and offers them as a place to live and work for talented artists. The exhibition shows a rich selection of works by both emerging talent and established names, such as Anouk van Zwieten, Eline Boerma, Emo Verkerk, Hidenori Mitsue, Janine van Oene, Nathalie Duivenvoorden, and Ronald Zuurmond. 

Museum director Jan Rudolph de Lorm emphasizes: “This exhibition shows how the preservation of cultural heritage continues to inspire artists.” 

Around the Hut of Mondriaan can be seen in Singer Laren until May 4. 

RESET 

Need a moment of rest and reflection? RESET in the 'cloud' of Museum de Fundatie is the exhibition to catch your breath. Here Delic & Huda, Josèfa Ntjam and Yussef Agbo-Ola invite you on a unique journey through art, sound and scent.

Delic & Huda help you with refill literally recharge in a dome filled with immersive video and sound. This artwork – which even the University of Groningen is researching – is designed to calm your nervous system. Josèfa Ntjam explores the power of resistance and hope with a special mix of poetry, video, installations and sculptures, while Yussef Agbo-Ola invites you into a magical space where plants, scents and sounds come together to restore your mental balance. 

The exhibition can be seen until March 16 at Museum de Fundatie.
