These cities are most suitable for a workation

Working and going on holiday at the same time. That sounds like music to your ears. Employees and companies are increasingly opting for these so-called 'workations'. And where is the best place to do that? The Workation Index 2024 has the answer to the question of what the best cities are for work hard, play hard.

Holiday home rental company Interhome compiled the Workation Index 2024 based on a number of factors: quality of electricity, healthcare, safety, cost of living and purchasing power, housing, traffic (travel time), pollution and climate. Since you don't just come there to work, the costs for leisure activities were also taken into account - such as your favorite drink, gym membership and a visit to the cinema - and the options for excursions such as museums, nightlife, day trips and escape rooms.

This resulted in a ranking of European cities where it is best to buy a plane ticket to open up your laptop and also put your feet up every now and then to enjoy everything the destination has to offer. Where is the best place to go? According to Interhome, this is not far across the border, namely Luxembourg. The mini-state is in the lead because of its attractive city center, unspoilt nature and beautiful walking spots. You can also use public transport here for free and there are many options for fun day trips.

Secondly, it is best to settle in the Spanish city of Valencia, because the sun shines almost all year round, it is not an expensive destination and there are many nice terraces and museums.

The Netherlands well represented

The Netherlands follows next in the rankings, in third place, with The Hague. The city behind the dunes scores high on safety and healthcare. In addition, the city has many catering establishments, twelve art museums and you can be on the beach in no time for a dip in the sea after a long working day or for a visit to a beach bar.

The Hague is not the only city we encounter on the list. Rotterdam (13) and Eindhoven (20) also make an appearance in the rankings.

Partly because it is a clean city, Tallinn, Estonia is at number four and because of the large number of nightlife and cheap living, Brno in the Czech Republic closes the top five.
