Auction gem: royal get well wish

While clearing out the attic, a couple from Warwickshire, England came across an unusual bill. The text on letterhead from Buckingham Palace reads, "Dear Grandma, I am sorry you are ill. I hope you will be better soon'. The auction gem went under the hammer for thousands of euros last week.

The letter that emerged during spring cleaning is from King Charles III. He wrote the touching bill at the age of six on March 15, 1955. Beside the text, "Dear Grandma, I am sorry you are ill. I hope you will be better soon. Much love from Charles," colorful kisses and scribbled circles adorn the letter.

The lucky finder, a 49-year-old business executive, explained that his wife and he finally had time to browse through a large box his mother had given them. The box came from his late grandfather Roland Stockdale. His grandfather worked for the Metropolitan Police, where he was part of the Queen's personal protection force in the 1950s.

The box lay in various attics for 30 to 40 years, but it contains other royal memorabilia besides the bill. It also contained eand invitation to a party at Balmoral Castle, a bill signed by Queen Elizabeth ll's mother, gift cards signed by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, as well as a copy of the queen's 1956 Christmas speech.

The bill from Charles finally disappeared under the hammer at auction by Hansons Auctioneers for €7,895.
