In the fall of 1944, the Battle of the Scheldt took place: a major naval battle in Zeeland and West Brabant. The battle is decisive for the course of World War II. In the bloody battle, the paths of several people cross, including that of Marinus, a young Dutch man fighting on the side of the Germans. Also that of William, a lost British glider pilot and Teuntje, who is part of a resistance movement.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008)

Eight-year-old Bruno moves with his family to a place far away, where there is nothing to do and no one to play with. Their new home is next to a fence that stretches as far as the eye can see, a fence that shields Bruno from the strange people he sees moving around behind it. Bruno wants to become an explorer and decides to go exploring. On one of his trips, he meets a boy whose life and circumstances are very different from his own. Nevertheless, the boys strike up a friendship, but it is a friendship that is not without consequences....

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

An acclaimed war film that won no less than five Oscars. During the Allied invasion of Normandy, two brothers die. A third brother dies simultaneously in New Guinea, fighting the Japanese. When it becomes known that a fourth brother has gone missing in the French countryside, a mission is launched to get him home safely. A film that won't let you go from the start.

Riphagen (2016)

Besides "good Dutchmen," there were also "wrong Dutchmen" during the war. This film tells the story of notorious Amsterdam criminal Dries Riphagen, played by Jeroen van Koningsbrugge.
