World's longest suspension bridge opened in Czech Republic

After two years of construction, the world's longest suspension bridge was recently opened in the Czech Republic. At 721 meters long, the Sky Bridge 721 is one where daredevils can enjoy walking in the air with phenomenal views on the retina.Text: Patrick StofferOn May 13, 2022, the suspension bridge opened, making it officially the longest suspension bridge in the world. For people afraid of heights, it is not exactly recommended, as the bridge dangles 95 meters above the ground. Sky Bridge 721 connects the peaks of Mount Kralicky SneznĂk, a ski resort in the northern Czech Republic.

The 1.5-meter-wide suspension bridge is one-way for pedestrians. If you want to return, you have to follow a two-kilometer path to get back to the starting point. Don't be afraid of falling. Sky Bridge 721 hangs from six strong cables with a tensile force of about 360 tons per cable. The two-year construction resulted in a 450-ton bridge, including 158 tons of cables and 20 tons of auxiliary structures.

New record

At 721 meters, the skywalker is officially the longest footbridge in the world. The previous record was held by the 516 Arouca Bridge in Portugal. This bridge has a length of 516 meters and hangs 175 meters above the Paiva River.
