The Flying Deer unites three icons

Amsterdam Slovenian artist Tadej Oblak has used the bar of hotel Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam as a white canvas and temporarily transformed it into a neo-pop art piece. With a name change: from The Flying Dutchman to The Flying Deer. Inspired by the Grand Series of whiskey house Glenfiddich, the design brings out the joint motto of the house, the five-star hotel and the artist: "crown the occasion. Classic meets modern

Playfully capturing moments of happiness and the coronation of the icons portrayed is the signature of Tadej Oblak. His pop-art design for the bar is an interplay between classic and modern, based on the distinctive foundations of both Glenfiddich and The Grand. The menu has expanded to include exceptional whiskey cocktails, and virtually the entire Glenfiddich range shines on the shelf, from the iconic 12-year-old to the quirky, exclusive series of single malts. With all the whiskies, cocktails and flights, executive chef Raoul Meuwese has developed accompanying dishes.

The three icons

Situated between two historic canals in the heart of the city, The Grand has a rich history; from a 15th-century monastery transformed into a royal lodge, to the headquarters of the Admiralty and Amsterdam's City Hall. Today, The Grand offers five-star luxury in a unique Amsterdam ambiance, equipped with French elegance and grandeur. The hotel welcomes a variety of guests, from trendy Amsterdammers to famous international movie stars. Founded by William Grant in the Scottish town of Dufftown, Glenfiddich first flowed from its stills in 1887. The Glenfiddich Grand Series is an exclusive series of single malts that exudes luxury and is designed to celebrate special occasions on a whole new level. It celebrates with Tadej at The Flying Deer. Oblak is now an all-round visual artist, his work ranging from traditional graphic designs and portraits to digital (3D) art and sculptures.

The garden of Amsterdam

In the courtyard garden of The Grand, the bar has been expanded with a glass gazebo entirely in the style of the new design. Here the whiskey menu can be enjoyed in fine atmospheres, in the sun or under the stars. Will we see you there?
