Just as Dubai has the Burj Khalifa, Egypt is also home to an icon. As one of five architecture firms worldwide, STATE was asked to design a unique vacation retreat on a private island on Egypt's northern coast. Take a look at this architectural masterpiece.
In his own words, challenge is in the blood of STATE. As a creative architecture firm, the team knows how to push boundaries together. And with an unlimited budget they took on this challenge with both hands.
And the result is certainly worth it; the unique design includes eighteen suites, a panoramic roof with infinity pool, an indoor and outdoor pool, a helipad and a yacht dock.
STATE: four themes, one triangle
The four themes, elegance and luxury, connection to nature, iconic and timeless, natural sightlines and daylight, come together in the design in a triangle shape. Thus STATE: ''The triangle is the symbol of energy and strength. It represents the growth cycles that lead to a higher state of being.''Â
The triangle creates unique sight lines from each facade. The ground and second floors are oriented differently, creating 360-degree views. Each floor thus has its own unique experience. At the three points where the axes meet, one extension has been added each time. These extensions each reach for a particular mode of transportation, namely: the helipad, yacht dock and horse stable.
"The triangle is the symbol of energy and power"
Natural(ly) tight and raw
The design is finished entirely in concrete. This minimalist finish creates unity in the design and enhances the bold architectural lines. This material is not only sleek and raw, but also has a natural quality that pays homage to the name Signature Island. It subtly references nature by literally placing its imprint as a signature on the building.
The infinity pool at the end of the balcony visually creates a delicate transition between the sea and the villa. Optically, the two appear to merge, a powerful yet subtle detail that reinforces the connection between the design and its surroundings.Â
