Seaffinity: the future of superyachts

A yacht that does not pollute and generates its own energy is, I think, the dream of every superyacht owner. That dream has come true with the yacht Seaffinity. The ship looks like it comes straight out of the future.Text: Hans Buitelaar

SEABIRD AMONG SUPERYACHTS

Respecting nature, enjoying the sea in silence, being outdoors, not causing polluting emissions: Seaffinity is a design for a yacht that wants to blend into its environment. The lightness of a seabird was an inspiration. New technology such as the Oceanwings that provide wind propulsion goes hand in hand with the use of natural light and natural ventilation. Thoughtfully placed windows in nature-inspired patterns minimize energy requirements from air conditioning or lighting. Electricity is generated by using the propellers as generators while sailing. The Oceanwings were developed for the sailing freighter Canopée, currently under construction in France. This ship will carry components for the European Space Agency's Ariane rockets sailing across the ocean to the launch base in French Guiana. Seaffinity is the first yacht with this form of wind propulsion. Operation is largely automated. The three hulls are topped by a single roof, so the space on board is a logical whole. Not the technology of sailing, not the construction of the trimaran, but the experience of the beauty of the ocean is the guiding principle for the design of the yacht. Adornment is omitted: simplicity is the luxury of Seaffinity.
