The Foldable MASTER test

Samsung's latest foldable smartphones: Galaxy Z Fold4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. These special innovations are presented by the electronics king at MASTERS EXPO. MASTERS already got the chance to double fold the latest models for a while. And this is what we thought of them...

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4

Cell phones are getting bigger and better. But ... where do you put it? That's especially true for ladies. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 brings a solution. "The size is half the size of my normal phone and just fits next to my lip gloss, car keys and earphones in a small crossbody bag. Really super nice!"

It's always a struggle: where do I leave my cell phone when I go out to dinner, have a drink or go out? In the back pocket of my skinny jeans is a no go and if I'm wearing leggings or a short skirt it's absolutely impossible. So I am almost obliged to put on a jacket or bring a large handbag in which it fits. And I don't always feel like doing that. With the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 that struggle is a thing of the past. The size is half the size of my normal phone and it just fits next to my lip gloss, car keys and earphones in a small crossbody bag. Really super nice! Not only is the 'Flip' compact, it is catchy and also feels luxurious thanks to its sleek finish. I usually opt for a black device, just basic, nothing to complain about. But I like this color purple, it's something different. It also comes in blue, gold and gray. And you can also go for the Bespoke Edition, then you can choose your own color combination. I also see the phone as a fashion item. It attracts attention. Especially when I'm sitting at a table in a restaurant or bar and have it unfolded at a 90-degree angle in front of me. Because how convenient: you can just make hands-free video calls and take selfies!

"The Galaxy Z Flip4 has two cameras on the back: a main camera and wide-angle lens. It is not the device with which you will win the biggest photography awards, fine for a snapshot, but the cameras are not very special. However, it does excel at night, as it is equipped with the Night Mode function for quality pictures in the dark. The same goes for the selfie camera. With its 10 megapixels, it is fairly modest, but thanks to automatic post-processing and a better sensor, you can take good selfies even in low light. And for me that is a huge advantage. After all, in my gallery you'll find mostly photos of friends and selfies, memories of fun happenings. To me, the Flip is not so much a photography device, it feels much more like a super-social device. My "step buddy" with whom I spend long nights. It's literally and figuratively bendable and great for taking photos or videos from all sorts of angles, both front and back.

Galaxy Z Fold4

In 2019, Samsung launched the first-ever foldable phone. Now three years later, this revolutionary development has reached new heights with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. "I carefully unfolded it and ... immediately fell in love," said the company.

"Pretty much since there is no cord on the phone, I have been using Samsung. I've had the entire Galaxy family in my pocket. Teething problems disappeared, the design became sleeker, the screen bigger, as did the functionality, and the cameras ... Almost every time I showed someone a picture on my cell phone, I was told, 'What good quality!' The Galaxy became my Hasselblad. When I got the chance to try out the Galaxy Z Fold4 for this edition, I drove to the Samsung Electronics Benelux office the same day to pick it up. Earlier, I had "felt" it in an electronics store at Schiphol Airport. There it was on display. I had of course heard about the foldable model, didn't know what to think of it then, and now I had it in my hands for the first time. I carefully unfolded it and ... was immediately in love. As if I landed on another planet and a new world opened up before me. The size of the screen, the brightness of the image. The fact that this was possible: folding and unfolding a screen. The technical ingenuity: twice as many inches in a device about the same size as my current Galaxy S20+.

"That first meeting lasted a scant 15 minutes: I had a flight to catch. But now the Galaxy Z Fold4 was lying wide open in front of me and I had all the time I needed to get to know him/her. And introduce it to friends and relations. Because one of the great things about Samsung's new mobile flagship is that it is still relatively unknown. Everyone wants to hold it, sniff it, touch it... One of my friends even wanted to take a picture with it! An eye-catcher pure and simple. But the Galaxy Z Fold4 is more than that. It is not only an unparalleled beauty that you will love to be seen with, the device also makes your life more fun. A very big plus is that you can open multiple screens at once by dragging apps from the new taskbar to the large main screen. For example, you can make your mailbox, Twitter and Google Photos appear in split-screen. And drag an image from Google Photos into Gmail to send it as an attachment. Super convenient! As is the feature that allows you to set up combinations of apps so you can open them with one motion at a time. Samsung calls the Galaxy Z Fold4 a "multitasking powerhouse with ultimate performance," and there's no lie to that.
