Rosewood opens doors: “We wanted every space to reflect the soul of Amsterdam''

Amsterdam has gained a major new destination. As of today, Rosewood Amsterdam opens its doors – where verdicts once rang out, the buzz of guests, the rolling of suitcases and the clinking of glasses now resound…

After a restoration that took more than ten years, the time has come: the former Palace of Justice opens as the very first Rosewood hotel in the Netherlands. Situated on the canals, the five-star hotel offers 134 rooms and suites, including five signature suites.

Second Life

The interior is in the hands of Studio Piet Boon, who stylishly combined the historical character of the building with modern Dutch design. Even the old cell doors and courtrooms were given a second life – but a lot more comfortable. As Piet Boon puts it: “We wanted every space to reflect the soul of Amsterdam: rich in history, elegant and full of character.”

Thomas Harlander, Managing Director of Rosewood Amsterdam, also emphasizes the unique role of the building in the city: “Our mission is to create an experience where Amsterdam’s rich history and culture merge with Rosewood’s signature lifestyle. By honoring the architectural legacy of the former Palace of Justice and creating thoughtfully designed spaces, we are not only restoring a cherished landmark for the people of Amsterdam, but inviting guests to immerse themselves in the heart of this vibrant city. It’s a celebration of heritage, innovation and meaningful connections.”

From palace kitchen to Prinsengracht

There is also plenty to discover in terms of culinary delights. Director of Food & Beverage Emiliano Di Franca (formerly Waldorf Astoria) introduces three concepts: a restaurant with a refined dining approach, a lively Lobby Lounge and a hidden cocktail bar. In the kitchen, executive chef Federico Heinzmann is at the helm, together with Willem-Pieter van Dreumel, who after more than 7,5 years as head chef of the Royal House has opted for a new adventure on the Prinsengracht.

In addition to the suites and culinary hotspots, the hotel offers an extensive Asaya® Spa, an indoor pool and a gym.
