A look inside the most expensive apartment ever to change hands in Downtown Manhattan. This dream apartment on the Hudson went from hand to hand for over €55 million.
More than eight years ago, Harsh Padia and his wife Purvi Padia paid just under $27 million for their apartment at 150 Charles Street. Last month, they sold it, off the open market, for a staggering $55.8 million, officially making it the most expensive home ever sold in the heart of southern Manhattan.
What do you get for that price? Some 540 square feet of living space, five bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, and a view of the Hudson River. Two landscaped terraces provide outdoor space that is at least as scarce in this neighborhood as an under-building parking space, which will set you back $465.000.
Silent advance
The buyer remains anonymous, of course, but was represented by brokers Eric Brown and Zeve Salman of Elevated at Compass. On the seller's side were Jim St. André of Compass and Peter Zaitzeff of Serhant. According to Zaitzeff, this is further evidence that Downtown Manhattan is quietly on the rise: "We're seeing prices here that we previously only saw in Midtown and Billionaires' Row."
An architectural gem by Cook + Fox Architects, the building offers full-service amenities like a concierge, courtyard and state-of-the-art fitness center, as well as an impressive roster of residents, including Bon Jovi, Ben Stiller and Ryan Seacrest.
