The new gem from Polestar

Expanding as a global brand

Polestar was launched in 2017 as a venture of both Volvo Cars Group and Geely Holding. The automaker debuted a plug-in hybrid with the Polestar 1, followed by the all-electric Polestar 2. With a modest fan base of current owners, Polestar now aims to expand as a global brand by implementing U.S. car production and market.

The electric vehicle will go into production in 2022 and the launch is scheduled for year-end. An image accompanying the announcement hints at the shape and shows the SUV covered in a sheet. However, it appears that the vehicle has the shape similar to that of the Polestar 2 hatchback. According to the brand itself, the new model is an aerodynamic SUV designed according to Polestar's evolved design language.

The U.S. as a home market

The Polestar will be built at Volvo's new plant in South Carolina, and every one that comes out of the factory will also be for sale in the U.S. Dennis Nobelius, Chief Operating Officer at Polestar explains that manufacturing in the U.S. reduces delivery times and environmental impact. This will then also have an immediate positive effect on the consumer price of the Polestar 3. Dennis indicates that all this will make the brand even more competitive in the important American sales market. In this way, America is no longer an export market, but also a home market. The U.S. and China are the two largest markets for electric cars. Sources indicate that 80 percent of the number of electric cars worldwide are driven in America, China, Japan, the Netherlands and Norway.

The Polestar 3 SUV is expected to debut late next year as a 2023 model, reports Car and Driver. The company has not announced pricing, but it is expected to be slightly higher than the 51,000 euros of the Polestar 2.Polestar 2Read more: 'THIS IS: THE NEW MOST EXPENSIVE CAR IN THE WORLD'
