These films have a chance to win an Oscar

With the Golden Globes still fresh in our minds, the next awards show is already on the horizon. On March 12, the 95th edition of the Oscars will take place. The nominees were announced last week; MASTERS lists the major contenders for the coveted golden statuette.

The titles nominated for BBEST FILM are: Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Im Westen nichts Neues, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness.

The science fiction film Everything Everywhere All at Once has a chance to win as many as 11 Oscars this year. The film shows Evelyn, played by Michelle Yeoh, running a laundromat and living a quiet life. Suddenly, however, this changes when Evelyn finds herself in a multiverse... Notable this year is the large number of nominations from European films. Thus, the Oscars even have a Dutch touch. The film Close, nominated for Best International Film, is a co-production by Amsterdam-based Topkapi Films.

Eligible for the Best Actor title are Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Brendan Frasier, Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy. Austin Butler made a name for himself with his portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll in the film Elvis made a big impression. Opponent Tom Hanks, on the other hand, was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for, among other things, his "ridiculous accent. In the film, the American actor plays Elvis' manager Tom Parker. The manager was born in Breda in 1909. Hanks thus measures himself in the film with a Dutch accent, this unfortunately did not fall on good ground... The Razzies are awarded every year on the eve of the Oscars. Instead of the best performances within the film industry, this awards show gives awards to the worst performances.

Hollywood icon

Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Andrea Riseborough and Michelle Williams have a chance to win Best Actress. The Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armas shined on the big screen as Marilyn Monroe in the film Blonde, among others. The fictional drama film presented a bold, new portrayal of the Hollywood icon's tumultuous private life. Incidentally, it took Netflix quite a while to agree to the film. The streaming service found the film too pornographic, so the release was delayed for a long time.
