ON TOP OF THE HILL

Is it a hill, or is it a villa? This luxurious 4473-square-foot dream home is located in the middle of Canada's hilly landscape. Thanks to 3D scanning technology, the design fits precisely into the surrounding nature.Text: Larissa Schaule Jullens
Image: PartisansWhen a fire broke out in entrepreneur Scott Friedman's home in 2017, he and his family were forced to leave. Friedman decided to experiment with their new home - which admittedly was built on the same property. He enlisted the help of established company Partisans and commissioned them to build an extravagant home on his more than 4473-square-foot estate. He gave the company complete freedom for the experiment, but he did have one important requirement: the house had to become one with nature. Thanks to the use of 3D scanning technology, the house designed by Partisans fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape. The final result is mind blowing. The entire house consists of glass doors, the ceilings are made of white-oak material and the roof is meant to further blur the line between architecture and landscape. A special technique was used to shape the roof this way. The large curve of the house leads - through the outdoor pavilion - to the main residence. Furthermore, this villa has a swimming pool, 4 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, a cinema ánd a gigantic garden.
