After rain comes sunshine

After the drought comes big rain ... so must have thought artist Matthew Mazzotta. The artist decided to store rainwater and use it to water his plants. He built a special installation for this purpose.Text: Bart-jan Brouwer

Rain on demand

In Springfield, Missouri, there is a house. With a cloud above it invariably. On days with heavy rain, rainwater is stored in a tank under the house. Rocking in the rocking chairs drives a pump, which carries the water to the cloud. From the cloud, the water falls onto the roof, which not only creates a cozy raindrops falling on the roof sound, but also waters plants in the windowsill and immediate area. Besides offering a meditative moment - the rocking, the tapping on the roof - Cloud House by artist Matthew Mazzotta is a creative piece of water management.

LXRY LIST 2022

The annual book LXRY List 2022 casts a glance into the distance, where new opportunities shine. Entrepreneurship with a view to a better world. For example, Rewilding Europe is committed to helping disappearing species by making space for true wild nature. And De Apostelhoeve is taking advantage of global warming by growing wine on the hills of Limburg and gaining international recognition for it. In addition to these burgeoning economies, there is also a focus on sustainable initiatives. Like Cartier's new Tank Must, a watch that runs on solar energy. And a lamp against light pollution. But the list also includes an over-the-top hotel stay at Château Versailles. Après nous, le déluge? No, but even in the new world there may be room to enjoy and experience.
