MOST EXPENSIVE CAR INTERIORS

A built-in navigation, leather seats and a double cup holder are nice extras for the average driver. However, some go a step further and spend thousands of dollars extra to drive around in one and all luxury. These cars are not just a means of transportation, but works of art that often involve decades of production work. Text: Fleur de Jong

1. Pagani Huayra

The Pagani Huayra takes the crown when it comes to extravagance. The interior of the Huayra looks more like a Bellagio roulette table than a car cabin. The interior is made of soft cowhide leather and carbon fiber. The entire center console is milled from a single piece of aluminum. The shifter is a beauty in itself and was left in plain sight on purpose so that the driver can hear the mechanical sound of a gear when it is engaged.

The price of this stunning picture? The interior of the Huayra costs a generous 1.5 million euros.

2. Bentley flying spur

The interior of the Bentley Flying Spur is handmade and Bentley says it is the most advanced car they have ever brought to market. Each Flying Spur goes through 84 stages of assembly at the factory requiring 200 workers. The leather used in the cabin comes from northern European bulls. It takes about 12 hours to assemble the four seats alone. The craftsmen must also undergo at least five months of training before they are allowed to co-build the Bentley interior. Each interior consists of 350 separate leather pieces that must be stitched to 60 different parts in the cabin. This requires more than 3 kilometers (!) of thread.

This hand-crafted interior costs around 233,000 euros and this is without all the extra options....

3. Aston Martin DB9 Volante Equestrian

This Volante Equestrian was originally designed on behalf of the Menlo Charity horse show in the United States. Since then, this model from Aston Martin has become one of the brand's most sought-after models. With Saddle Tan Luxmill leather and diamond quilted ivory alcantara, this is one of the chicest DB9s ever made. Saddle Tan Luxmill leather is an unusual type of leather, but is used in the equestrian world for saddles. For the finishing touch, a horse's head is embroidered into the headrests.

The price of this interior is almost 500,000 euros.

4. Rolls-Royce Phantom

Rolls Royce has been a leader in luxury, comfort and sophistication for more than a century. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is a perfect example of this. It is available with a range of customization options to make each car unique to its owner. For example, it is possible to opt for silk seat covers with hand-stitched embroidery that take up to 600 hours of work.

So an estimate of the price of the interior depends on the various options, but it will come down to around 250,000 euros.

5. Range Rover SVAutobiography

Range Rovers have become increasingly chic in terms of their interiors over the years. The standard trim is already packed with top specifications, but Land Rover has raised the bar even higher with the SVAutobiography. This car is one of the classiest Range Rovers ever built. This Range has 29 speakers, folding walnut tables and a champagne cooler. This version starts at a ton, but will probably go up to 120,000 euros with all the tempting optional extras.
