At Amsterdam's DeLaMar Theatre, the famed Michelin stars for 2023 were announced today during the Michelin Guide Ceremony. Culinary Holland was rewarded this year with 17 new Michelin stars, 1 second star, 4 Green Stars and 8 Bib Gourmands. Here it rained stars...
During the ceremony, 17 restaurants were allowed to immerse themselves in the Michelin world for the first time and received their first star pasted on their restaurant. Whereas in 2022 there were 10, this year there are 17. Most of the stars flew towards restaurants in Amsterdam and Maastricht.
The comeback of Utrecht is remarkable. The city was last awarded a star in 2013 and can now once again praise itself with no less than two new starred restaurants: Karel 5 and Maeve.
These restaurants may call themselves starred restaurants as of today:
- Charles 5 Utrecht
- Chateau Neercanne, Maastricht
- VanderVeen, Amsterdam
- Lizz, Gouda
- Flavours, Weert
- Brass Farmer Home, Zwolle
- Bistro de la Mer, Amsterdam
- Central Park, Voorburg
- Restaurant Smink, Wolvega
- Studio, Maastricht
- Maeve, Utrecht
- Coulisse, Amsterdam
- Codium, Goes
- The Woage, Gramsbergen
- Yama, Rotterdam
- Au Coin des Bon Enfants, Maastricht
- Basilica, Harderwijk
Multiple stars
Whereas the new stars were handed out in a big way, the second stars appear to be a little quieter. Only one restaurant, Vinkeles in Amsterdam, received a second star to its name. A third star was not awarded at this year's ceremony.
Green Star
Since 2020, awards have also been given to restaurants that have sustainability high on their list of priorities: the Green Star. This year, four of these sustainability stars were awarded:
- Hof aan Zee (Koudekerke)
- Restaurant Rotonde (Rotterdam)
- Morille (Koudekerke)
- The Dyck (Woubrugge)
Bib Gourmands
Bib Gourmands are awarded annually to restaurants where you can eat three full courses of your choice for about forty euros. These restaurant are known for their generosity and outstanding value for money. These restaurants may count themselves among them this year:
- Lazuur, Amsterdam
- Wils Bakery Café, Amsterdam
- The Voorburcht, Hattem
- HAVN, Horn
- Bistrot Regent, Nijmegen
- Rotonde, Rotterdam
- Poortman, Veeningen
- Senang, Zwolle (owned by Jonnie and Thérèse Boer)
Finally, two more awards were presented. This year's Young Chef Award went to Yornie van Dijk (Basiliek and Eindhoven) and the Sommelier Award was received by Nadine Mögling (Bij Jef in Den Hoorn).
MASTERS EXPO
Also during MASTERS EXPO the Michelin stars of heaven are cooked every year at pop-up Restaurant M*, where last year a record number of 34 Michelin-starred chefs - representing 54 Michelin stars - were in the kitchen. This year again, from December 7 to 11, a record number of top chefs will stand shoulder to shoulder to celebrate the joys of the trade together and provide culinary enjoyment for guests.
