Four Dutch chefs earn spot in Thai Michelin guide

Michelin Guide: the culinary bible that charts the absolute top chefs and restaurants in the world. Recently, the prestigious star guide for the year 2022 was released in Thailand, and what turns out: four Dutch chefs once again managed to earn a spot through their active, successful work across the border in the Asian country. Henk Savelberg *

Master Chef Henk Savelberg, originally from Mechelen, has already been awarded several Michelin stars in the Netherlands. So too with his successful restaurant Savelberg in Voorburg. In 2014, he moved from The Hague to Bangkok due to the economic crisis and started a restaurant of the same name there. In Thailand, he is listed as a newcomer and received a Michelin star for his "new" restaurant. With his previous restaurant, Savelberg already had a Michelin star in the Bangkok, but moved to a new location last year, again successfully. Restaurant Savelberg can therefore proudly put one Michelin star behind its name.Photo: Michelin Guide Thailand

Jim Ophorst *

31-year-old Jim Ophorst retained his Michelin star with his restaurant PRU in Phuket, Thailand, with its sophisticated cuisine. In addition, Ophorst and his team also received a special star. In addition to a Michelin star, the chef was also awarded the Green Michelin Star: a sustainability award for restaurants and chefs who hold themselves accountable for their ethics and environmental standards. Onno Kokmeijer and Arjan Speelman *

With Restaurant Ciel Bleu in Hotel Okura Amsterdam, Kokmeijer (r) and Speelman (l) already knew to garner a lot of praise in our country. They also know how to score across the border with their fantastic gastronomy. Restaurants Elements in Hotel Okura Bangkok once again won prizes this year and was crowned with one Michelin star. Starting in 2022, chef Gerard Villaret (m) will start in the restaurant under their wings. The three of them will take the Thai capital to even more culinary heights.
