Remarkable mysticism

Named after its creator and chief engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut, the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe is one of only two prototypes built at the time. Its unique design, with its characteristic wing doors, as well as its innovative technology, have lent the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe a remarkable mystique that continues to this day. Added to this is the outstanding driving performance due to the unique racing technology. The car was exhibited in 2018 at the Louwman Museum The Hague.

Record price

The sale of the icon took place during an auction at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, in cooperation with RM Sotheby's. Among the invitees were selected Mercedes-Benz customers and international car and art collectors. In the end, the car was sold for a record price of €135 million to a private collector; this amount makes it the most valuable car of all time.

Proceeds from the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe will be used to establish a worldwide Mercedes Benz Fund to provide study and research grants in the fields of environmental science and decarbonization to young people. The funds are intended for young people who would otherwise lack the financial resources to carry out these projects and pursue the associated career paths. Also read: 'This is the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore'
