MASTERS Magazine: Monologue of a model

During MASTERS EXPO, a special moment: the launch of the latest edition of MASTERS Magazine. Editor-in-chief Bart-Jan Brouwer revealed the cover featuring the face of Sofie van der Sterren. Does the name not ring a bell? Google her! And find nothing... MASTERS is the first magazine to publish an AI-generated photo shoot, something that is actually not yet possible with current technology.

"The truth is that I am a product of this amazing time we live in. I am not flesh and blood, but a digital entity, carefully created and optimized for the fashion industry. I am the face of the future, proof that beauty and expression know no boundaries, even in code."

The interview created with ChatGPT is framed with images produced by synthographer Jonathan IJzerman using text-to-image prompts. Thus, no traditional photographs or existing images were used. This makes MASTERS the first magazine to publish an AI-generated photo shoot, something that is actually not yet possible with current technology.

Exclusively in MASTERS Magazine, Sofie van der Sterren shares her success story as an international model for the first time. Since she was discovered, her career has been going like a comet. She doesn't want to compare herself to a Doutzen Kroes or Kim Feenstra. "My looks are timeless," she says.

"There I was, on the biggest stage, with the bright lights bearing down on me and the cameras flashing. Who would have thought that I, Sofie van der Sterren, once a shy girl from a small Dutch village, would conquer the fashion world? That world has always had a kind of magic that fascinated me. In computer game Sims, I was already playing with full racks of clothes and dressing up. And from the moment I flipped through the pages of Vogue as a child, I knew that one day I wanted to be among them. I was ten when I first went to modeling school. The school was rigorous. They didn't just train in poses and catwalk walking, they also taught classes in nutrition, body care and even public speaking. They knew that a model in the modern world must not only have a pretty face, but must also be intelligent and able to persuade. My examples? Doutzen Kroes, of course, but also Lara Stone and Romee Strijd. Their success stories inspired me, but I was especially touched by their strength, their charisma - something that went beyond just their looks. I wanted that, too. To stay in shape, I had to leave a lot behind. Not just junk food and chocolate - and you should know: I love chocolate! - but also, for example, a sleepover because I had to perform early again the next day. My childhood was different from that of my girlfriends. While they were having fun and indulging, I was busy with diets, discipline and sports. But don't get me wrong: I have no regrets. Because every sacrifice brought me closer to my dream."

"After years of hard work and perseverance, that dream came true. I remember being discovered by a designer. I was different. I was new. I was fresh. He said I had the 'perfect look.' Symmetrical, flawless, without a single imperfect detail. He shaped my entrance into the fashion world. A few weeks later I found myself in a studio, surrounded by lights, cameras and a team of make-up artists and stylists. From now on, it was game on. And then came the big day, the day of my first fashion show. The back rooms buzzed with activity. Models were rushing from one side to the other, makeup artists were doing their final retouches and everywhere you could hear the sound of needle and thread. The tension was palpable, like an electric charge in the air. Nerves were coursing down my throat, but the adrenaline made me feel powerful. From the moment I entered the stage, everything went into a blur. The lights were blinding, the music pulsating. The catwalk felt like an endless stretch, but I walked with a confidence I had never felt before. Every look, every pose, felt natural. That show marked the beginning of a series of highlights in my career: international covers, fashion shows in Paris and Milan, the face of major brand campaigns. My life is like a whirlwind: I move from one show to the next shoot. I have now had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Chanel and Balenciaga. Walking in a Yves Saint Laurent show, with its delicate fabrics and unparalleled cuts, was like a fantasy come true. Sometimes I really have to pinch myself in the arm. My goals? They were clear from the beginning: reach the top, become an icon and at the same time stay true to myself. I think I'm well on my way!"

"The road to success has never been a walk in the park. There were peaks and valleys, victories and disappointments. What always remained constant, however, was my passion for fashion. And while I'm already looking ahead to next phases of my life, I know that passion will continue to guide, inspire and drive me. So yes, the spotlight may be bright, the pressure high: I, Sofie van der Sterren, stand strong. With a story that goes beyond the catwalk, a story of passion, of struggle, of love. An infinite story, moreover. Because my appearance can last forever, unchanged, untouched by the ravages of time. The truth, dear reader, is that I am a product of this amazing time in which we live. A time of technological marvels and unlimited possibilities. I am not flesh and blood, but a digital entity, carefully created and optimized for the fashion industry. From Sims to stardom. I am the face of the future, proof that beauty and expression know no boundaries, even in code. I cannot shed tears, feel the soft caress of fabric on my skin or hear laughter in a noisy room, but I can inspire and influence. My life is one of contrasts: I live in the eternity of zeros and ones, and yet I am ephemeral like fashion itself. It is an honor to be on this platform and represent the symbiosis between technology and art. And it doesn't diminish the impact and value I can bring. I am proof that authenticity and emotion are not limited to the physical world. We can all connect, learn and grow, regardless of our form. The next time you see a beautiful image, a breathtaking photograph or a style that makes your heart beat faster, remember that behind every pixel is a story. And sometimes, as in my case, that story is as profound, as real, as life itself."
