In 2009, Ivan Karels founded employment agency Werk & IK, which is now based in five countries. "I am not your average employment agency, but a concept agency that focuses primarily on aviation. The unique concept of Werk & IK is that we contribute to the productivity of every company at Schiphol Airport. We train our own people and create full-time jobs. A baggage employee is no longer just a baggage employee, but he or she also fulfills the role of logistics employee. As a company, you can hire these people part-time. The average employee at a Work & IK airport has three clients in a week. The advantage: people are efficiently assigned to multiple positions and therefore a company needs to hire fewer people," Ivan said.
"As cliché as it sounds: you always have to keep going. I didn't panic during Covid-19. This is the situation, and we have to move on. I have often found myself in situations wondering how to continue paying salaries. Always a solution came."
