An authentic luxury canal house

"Besides the fact that this canal house fits the residents perfectly, it also fits me well. My own home gives the same feel and in my home I have used the same color combinations. I also like to add art to the interior making the design more appealing. I work based on feeling and this is also how I choose the art. By now it is clear to me that unconsciously I often choose an artwork depicting an intriguing woman, who radiates strength by daring to show vulnerability.

Personally, I like spaces that make me feel safe, warm and secure, and you can create that feeling in a variety of ways. In this case by using warm, deep colors and luxurious materials. Many clients love the atmosphere in the photo, but still don't dare to do it themselves at first because it's too much out of their comfort zone. The interesting and challenging part of my job is to take the client on a journey to come up with a design that exceeds their biggest dreams."

The luxurious reflection of personality

"This project is dear to me because the property is located in the area where I grew up: the northern part of the Netherlands. In addition, because this house belongs to a good friend of mine, with whom I spent my childhood. In fact: she is my childhood, we really did everything together. So it felt extra special for me to create their dream home together with her and her partner. The sleek, architectural lines are carried through into the interior and reinforced by the concrete floor. The loose designer furniture in combination with the use of color reinforces the character of the house and also tells a lot about the residents. It reflects their personalities and is also in line with my personal style. Very nice when those worlds merge.

In this house I could live well myself with my children. It is a very livable house, equipped with all the conveniences and luxuries, without you seeing it. It adds up! In addition, as a counterpart to the deep dark colors of the canal house, I like the lightness of this interior and the openness that the spaces have in them. It gives space and peace and brings harmony."

ProductDesign | The One

"Several years ago I was asked by several brands to design products in addition to interiors. One of the first designs was my door design The One and I am still proud of it. The interesting thing about designing products is that it zooms in on the details from form. It is an interesting journey every time to be allowed to go completely in depth with one product. I learn a lot from it. Every item in an interior has inexhaustible possibilities on the one hand, but on the other hand also limitations that you have to take into account when designing. This combination makes it fascinating to think out a product completely every time. And when a product from paper becomes reality, because it is actually in the store: that moment is magical for me.

The One was designed from the idea of emphasizing height in a room. The door lengthens and connects because there is no profiling at the top and bottom. Thus the floor, door and ceiling flow smoothly into each other, emphasizing the height of the room. In the closed version, the door disappears completely into the wall, becoming one with the interior. The technology is therefore high-tech, but out of sight, so that it does its job but does not distract from the design. There is a mathematical relationship in every design of mine, and by now it has become a fun gadget for myself. If you reason everything back, everything is in a mathematical relationship to each other."
