It is no longer a secret that John Heitinga is guest editor-in-chief of #42. In times of corona, Heitinga created the bookazine together with editor-in-chief Bart-Jan Brouwer. We give a little look behind the scenes. Text: Bart-Jan Brouwer

Silence of the Lambs

When Rahi Rezvani tied half a ball in front of his face during the shoot, John Heitinga laughed: “I look like Hannibal Lecter!” And a moment later he imagined himself as Nemo.

Creative with corona

Portrait photography in times of corona? We opted for a safe solution: behind the window. In the case of John Heitinga's grandfather, that was the only option: his nursing home was hermetically sealed. Even using the toilet after the long car journey to Ugchelen was not an option.

Two defenders

Of course the car of choice for John Heitinga, who has been driving it himself since the end of June: the New Land Rover Defender. Here both defenders are immortalized in front of the Olympic Stadium by Luuk van Kaathoven.

Unique in the Netherlands

In mid-February, MASTERS was a guest at The Tunnel Club in the ArenA. A select group enjoys a dinner there while they watch through a wall how the teams line up in the players' tunnel. Here, host Ronald de Boer speaks to Masters' Bart-Jan Brouwer.

Great hero

As a little boy, native Amsterdammer John van Helvert, now a photographer for MASTERS, liked to go to Sjaak Swart's tobacco shop to buy football pictures and a pack of chewing gum. And then let's hope that his great hero was there... When he met Mister Ajax at De Toekomst for a production of this edition, the big man became that little boy again.

A bygone past

In the weekend that the carnival started and the virus broke out in the Netherlands, John van Helvert made this group portrait of the crew of the Edel by Dennis restaurant. Top chef Dennis Huwaë could never have imagined that taking such a picture would be out of the question for the time being.
