The Vision Next 100 is Rolls-Royce's near-future vision. Self-driving, artificially intelligent, spacious, luxurious and, of course, with the comfort of an electric drive. The Vision Next 100 has just returned from a four-year world tour. So this is not just some designer's wild idea, this is how Rolls-Royce really sees the future of luxury motoring.
Mercedes-Benz gives its take on the distant future with the Vision AVTR concept car. The Vision AVTR takes its name from the movie Avatar. Like this film, the concept experiments with the future interaction between man, machine and nature. For example, the AVTR is operated by biometric signals. Thus, the driver "steers" by hand movements. Furthermore, the seats are made of vegan leather and on the floor is an innovative type of fast-growing wood. In addition, the body can even communicate with the outside world through self-moving flaps. Are we going to see all the ideas from the AVTR in the future? Probably not. Still, many parts that seem like pure science fiction today will indeed end up in future Mercedes cars.
In this prototype for an electric city bike, "The Hubless E-bike" by Reevo, the tires move around a fixed rim via bearings. Therefore, hubs and spokes are not needed. The removable battery (48 volts) recharges in three hours. The bike has built-in LED lights and an integrated lock; GPS and fingerprint access secure it against theft.
The future has two feet in the past at BMW. If you look closely at the Vision Next 100 motorcycle, you will see that the design inspiration was partly taken from the characteristic, air-cooled BMW boxer engine with two opposing cylinders. The BMW Motorrad Vision Next 1000 is a glimpse thirty years into the future. And those who look that far ahead are limited only by their own imagination. That didn't bother Edgar Heinrich, head of design at BMW Motorrad, and his team. They see the Vision Next 100 as an emission-free, analog escape that frees the rider from a stifling digital, autonomous riding straitjacket. Glasses have replaced the helmet. Forward-thinking technology offers plenty of protection as a digital companion.
