HOW TO DISCOVER THE NEW WORLD: AUTO’S

The appearance of cars has changed enormously over the past 100 years, as has the way they drive. So a good time to consult LXRY List 2021 on the new mobility of cars: electric, economical and stylish.Online Editor: Natasha Hendriks

Electric vintage cars

Vintage cars are cool, charming, beautiful cars and should be preserved. Unfortunately, they are also often old-fashioned, thus polluting and banned from many European inner cities. That's why you see more and more the conversion of oldtimers to electric. And no, it's not authentic, but it does drive wonderfully, quietly and cleanly. So where can you have such a conversion done? Painter Electric in Limmen (NH) delivers craftsmanship. But for the royal treatment you can go to Jaguar Land Rover Classics in the UK. You have to bring your own Jaguar or Land Rover. And if we have to choose, just do the Jaguar E-type. Touted by Enzo Ferrari as the most beautiful car ever. The E-type is then restored and converted by Jaguar with their best electric powertrain. The result is called Jaguar E-Type Zero, and was generously good enough for Harry and Meghan to get married in. The Zero may go into production, but for now prices are on request.

Vegan Evoque

Leather, the material of choice for a luxurious car interior. But at Range Rover, they think more sustainably and differently, as evidenced by an extensive line of leather-free and completely vegan materials it has developed for the luxury and compact Evoque, among others. Created by Danish textile specialist Kvadrat, the premium wool blend in the SUV is a unique upholstery fabric consisting of 30 percent wool and 70 percent polyester, made from 53 recycled plastic bottles per car. Eucalyptus Melange can also be selected while configuring an Evoque: a fabric created by combining 30 percent strong yet elastic plant fibers with 70 percent polyester. For now, the colors available for the Range Rover New Evoque 'Vegan' are Cloud and Ebony, dark brown and gray.

Shelby Cobra replica

Kirkham Motorsports in Utah builds replicas of classic cars, especially Shelby Cobras. By now, these replicas are so good that Shelby buys the sheet metal from Kirkham for its own restoration projects. The nice thing about a replica like this is that you can actually have it completely customized. Say you want a Kirkham 289 Coupe, but with wheels designed for you, wider fenders, a custom interior, a big block or just an electric powertrain. Kirkham can make it, it can even recreate a priceless classic especially for you, or build a new design. As David Kirkham himself says, "We can make anything, and we have." Prices start at around $100,000, but you can make it as crazy as you want.

BMW iX

BMW is launching the revolutionary iX this year, which we learned about as the BMW iNEXT concept car. A car ahead of its time. The characteristics of the iX: electric, extremely safe and highly autonomous. All current BMWs can brake independently when the situation calls for it, as well as accelerate and adjust and sometimes even park automatically. The iX sets new standards when it comes to autonomous driving. The so-called level 3 autonomous driving applies to the car that has the size of the BMW X5. This means that as a driver on highways, you can take your hands completely off the wheel. The iX5/iNEXT achieves 600 kilometers of driving range on a full battery and can put up to 200 kW on a fast charger.
