Land of Giants

Electricity pylons are a blot on any beautiful landscape. The American architectural firm Choi+Shine came up with a more cheerful form for these pylons in Iceland, namely that of enormous giants, and quite appropriately christened the project Land of Giants™.Online Editor: Mical Joseph

Servant giants

"Like the statues on Easter Island, these giants exude authority. They belong to the landscape and serve man by silently transporting electricity through the land, day and nach, sun or snow." By making small changes in the position of hands and head in relation to the body, different expressions can be achieved. When they walk up a mountain, they appear to be climbing. And when they approach a village, they kneel respectfully with heads bowed. These giants bring life to the landscape, making them much more than functional structures. Land of Giants™ won the Unbuilt Design Award from the Boston Society of Architects.

LXRY LIST 2022

The annual book LXRY List 2022 casts a glance into the distance, where new opportunities shine. Entrepreneurship with a view to a better world. For example, Rewilding Europe is committed to helping disappearing species by making space for true wild nature. And De Apostelhoeve is taking advantage of global warming by growing wine on the hills of Limburg and gaining international recognition for it. In addition to these burgeoning economies, there is also a focus on sustainable initiatives. Like Cartier's new Tank Must, a watch that runs on solar energy. And a lamp against light pollution. But the list also includes an over-the-top hotel stay at Château Versailles. Après nous, le déluge? No, but even in the new world there may be room to enjoy and experience.
