Awe of the past

This spring Creative Lab Amsterdam the new wallpaper. Past and contemporary design come together through this wallpaper, so that in this way the old works regain their place in the spotlight. To create the new collection, several elements from works dating from 1300 to 1800 were combined. The works of Aert Schouman, Robert Jacob Gordon and Henriëtte Geertruida Knip, among others, can be found in the wallpaper.

Art-director and co-founder Heleen van Nierop in her own words, fused fragments from the Rijksmuseum collection into a modern wallpaper collection in awe of the past. Every fine detail, from butterfly to garland of flowers became the starting point of the designs. The art director says that the different designs are not only stunning on the wall, but they continue to inspire through the beauty of the details. There is always something new in the design.

Unique story

A nice touch is that all the exotic animals and lush flowers in the playful designs have a unique story. Accordingly, the origin story of the historical elements is listed on the website with each wallpaper. For example, the ostrich was drawn by Robert Jacob Gordon (1743-1795). Robert was an explorer, scientist and diplomat. Through the legacy of this explorer, one has a tremendously detailed picture of South Africa during the last decades of the VOC regime. In addition to this special wallpaper, Creative Lab's entire collection includes greeting cards and notebooks.
