KIEN, 1723 AND GOLD

Culinary entrepreneur Carsten Klint has a nose for gastronomic hotspots, new culinary initiatives and tasty addresses in the Benelux. Every Friday he is a guest in the podcast '1.2.tje MET YVES. The GYGS' where he gives away his 3 best dinner tips. This week they are Kien, 1723 and Goud. Photo: RJR Photography

Kien

“Young entrepreneurs with culinary footsteps have opened their own restaurant in the Baarsjes in Amsterdam West. They gained their experience at Vinkeles (*), Scheepskameel, Graham's Kitchen and Gebroeders Hartering. This is where their shared passion comes together: good, honest cuisine with no-frills dishes and market fresh, but also a passion for wine and cocktails. Nice wine list with affordable bottles. The menu is small, but there is something for everyone: fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. Recommended: Celeriac in salt crust with celeriac cream, beurre noisette, granny smith and hazelnut. To die for!”

1723

“There is a tiny restaurant in the old center of Voorburg on Herenstraat, owned by two passionate entrepreneurs. Sandra is the hostess and her husband Pieter is in charge of the kitchen. The couple worked together for cooking legend and star chef Henk Savelberg and it shows. Every now and then a great classic from the kitchen of their former employer appears on the daily menu. There is 1 (very affordable!) dish on the menu every day. You can also order small bites and a dessert separately. It appears to have been a success, because there are 2 (full) sessions on their opening days.”

Gold

“After selling Las Palmas, Herman den Blijker couldn't resist opening another restaurant together with his right-hand man Nick de Kousemaeker. They opened restaurant GOUD in the Lloydstraat at the former location of FG Restaurant (**), which moved to the Hofbogen. Perhaps one of the most beautiful restaurants in terms of design and decoration, if you like lots and lots of gold. On the menu, of course, a lot of fish, crustaceans and shellfish from the friends of Schmidt Zeevis, but also thick steaks from butcher De Jong & Vader in Strijen.”
