Almost everyone around the world knows the song "White Christmas. When the time of the year comes again, it can be heard in every household. The song was written by Irving Berlin in the year 1940 and is the best listened to Christmas song at all times. The estimated earnings of the song are around €57 million. Irving Berlin had no idea when he wrote it that he would release the biggest hit. In 2016, it was estimated that the annual royalties (portion of revenue that musicians receive) was €385,723.
As you might have noticed, the song "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is not to be missed during the Christmas season. Used to characterize the Christmas season, the song has been used in several movies, commercials and videos. The Christmas hit was written by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff. The song was recorded in August 1994 and took about 15 minutes to create. Per year, Mariah and Walter earn €530,000 in royalties from it. The Christmas hit was written by Haven Gillespie and Fred J Coots in 1933. The day after it debuted, 100,000 copies were sold. The hit has been covered several times by major artists, such as Mariah Carey and Bruce Springsteen. However, the most successful cover is by Jackson Five from 1970. The original musicians of the famous song sold the rights to music record company EMI in 1981. In 2016, the family of Fred J Coots challenged this and won. In 2029, the family will get the rights back and will hopefully be able to enjoy the success with them. As the hit made an estimated €44 million.
The Christmas song was written by Mel Torme, who is oddly Jewish and wrote the song in 45 minutes in the summer of 1944. Mel Torme has written some 250 songs during his career. But his biggest (financial) success is "The Christmas Song. And made about €40 million, making it one of the best-listened-to Christmas hits of all time.
The well-known song written and sung by Paul McCartney, is and remains one of the best-known Christmas songs. Its success earns him about €350,000 to €530,000 in annual royalties. And has earned Paul about €35 million over time. He wrote the song in 1979 and it took him only ten minutes to write. He wrote it during the recording of his album McCartney II.
