A huge cross-shaped pendant with amethysts, framed with diamonds. That's what Kim Kardashian's new gem looks like that she snapped up last week. And what one... The iconic necklace was once worn by Princess Diana. As such, the price tag was certainly not out of line....
After Marilyn Monroe, Kim Kardashian seems to have found a new style example. Last year, the reality star and businesswoman already took the dress of none other than Marilyn Monroe on loan for the Met Gala. Especially for this occasion, Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress was even taken from Ripley's museum.
So it is likely that we will soon see the Kardashian with another piece of history. The jewel in question is an Attallah cross, made in 1920 by court jeweler Garrard. It was reportedly one of Princess Diana's favorite pieces. Among other things, she wore it in 1987 at a Birthright benefit gala. After her death, the piece was never seen in public again. Gerrard's creations were popular with the princess; for example, her 1981 oval sapphire engagement ring was also from this jeweler.
FriendshipÂ
Stuff belonging to Diana comes on the market very rarely. According to Sotheby's, the sale in itself is very special and especially since it is now a very striking piece of jewelry. But although Lady D wore the necklace, it was not officially hers. The cross was purchased in the 1980s by Naim Attallah. Because of his friendship with her, he loaned the cross several times. So now his relatives decided to auction off the special piece.
And in an auction, simply the highest bid counts. And so that one came from none other than Kim Kardashian. She paid €187,000 for the royal gem. About double the pre-estimated value.
