Japan has, of course, been on many a wish list for quite some time. The country knows how to impress. But for those who want to look beyond the iconic postcard, there is now a truly delicious reason to pack their bags. Travel Legends is organizing an exclusive 10-day trip through Japan in collaboration with master sake sommelier Menno Tol.

Travel Legends is launching an exclusive sake trip to Japan, focusing not only on the destination but, above all, on the story behind one of Japan's most refined traditions: sake. From March 19 to 28, 2027, a select group of up to fourteen people will travel, accompanied by master sake sommelier Menno Tol, to special places, culinary addresses, and breweries that are typically inaccessible to the general public. In doing so, the trip offers a rare glimpse into the craftsmanship, history, and culture behind Japanese rice wine.

The 10-day trip combines iconic sights with small-scale, authentic experiences. In Tokyo, an immersion in the city's energy awaits, where tradition and neon coexist remarkably smoothly. Think of market visits, refined dinners, and a private dinner at The Okura Tokyo. Afterwards, the journey continues to Fukushima, among other destinations, where participants get a behind-the-scenes look at a traditional sake brewery.

Menno Tol belongs to a select group of highly educated sake specialists. As one of only two Master Sake Sommeliers in the Netherlands and nominated for the FD Talent List 2026, he knows better than anyone how to make a centuries-old craft accessible without taking away its magic. During the trip, he shares his knowledge of rice varieties, water, fermentation, and the craftsmanship of the brewers. According to Tol, sake breweries are normally not easily accessible to outsiders. That is precisely why this trip makes the difference.

For Travel Legends, the trip fits into a broader trend: travelers are increasingly seeking experiences with substance. Not just ticking off where you’ve been, but coming home with stories that go beyond a beautiful photo.
