From Dalí to Frans Bauer: Arjen Paardekooper on wonder, humor and hidden gems

Who are the faces behind these companies? This time, a look into the world of Arjen Paardekooper, who as a partner at Blenheim Advocaten has guided more than three hundred takeovers over the past fifteen years. He also founded Hunt Corporate Finance.

What is your favorite museum and why?

''The Teatro-Museo Dalí in Figueres is my favorite. The tangible art there always confuses you, which makes it so special.''

What book has made a big impression on you recently?

''revolution by David Van Reybrouck made a deep impression on me. It is unbelievable that a Belgian writer had to write the true story about the dubious role of the Netherlands in Indonesia.''

Do you have a favorite movie that you would recommend to everyone?

''New Kids Turbo. I always keep laughing about it.''

What is your favorite hotel and what makes it so unique?

''The Claridge's in London is my favorite hotel. It's always a treat to stay there. The history of the hotel is unique—during World War II, seven kings lived there.''

What is your favorite travel destination and what is the hidden gem here that tourists often miss?

''Corsica is my favorite destination, but I like to keep the hidden gem for myself. I would like to share one restaurant tip: In the meantime. Don't be put off by the outside, step inside and enjoy a delicious brochette.''

Which artist inspires you the most and why?

''David Obels inspires me because of his tangible art. It speaks to me in a very direct way.''

Who is your favorite artist and how does their music influence your daily life?

''Frans Bauer is my favorite artist. His music always makes me happy.''

What is your favorite restaurant and what dish would you recommend there?

''Restaurant Troef is my favorite. The starter of brioche with attic bacon, mussels, dill and a foam of Pernod is truly unsurpassed.''

What is your favorite store and what do you buy there?

''Duikelman, a cooking store, is my favorite. My last purchase was a foie gras cutter—an indispensable tool in the kitchen!''
