Most victories Formula 1

With a fine victory by Max Verstappen in Bahrain, the new Formula One season has officially started again. Before we get ready for the next Grand Prix scheduled next Sunday, MASTERS takes a look back at the past: which drivers have the most wins to their name in a single season?

4. Lewis Hamilton & Max Verstappen

In 2015, Hamilton achieved 10 wins out of a total of 19 entries. In the following season, he again achieved 10 victories out of a total of 21 entries, so a slightly lower percentage of victories relative to the number of entries. In 2021, Verstappen also achieved 10 wins, totaling 22 entries this year.

3. Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton & Sebastian Vettel

These three drivers all have as many as 11 victories to their name in a single season. For example, Schumacher took the victories in the 2002 season, Vettel in the 2011 season and Hamilton in the 2020, 2014, 2018 and 2019 seasons. In 2007, the Englishman made his debut as a Formula One driver. The year he competed as the second driver alongside Fernando Alonso for the McLaren team. Speaking of records, Hamilton, with a tally of 103, holds the record for most pole positions of all time.

2. Michael Schumacher & Sebastian Vettel

German racing driver Michael Schumacher was active in Formula 1 from 1991 to 2006 and from 2010 to 2012. He became world champion seven times and has many records to his name. For example, with 13 wins, Schumacher is tied for second place with the most wins in a single season. Fellow countryman Sebastian Vettel became Formula 1 world champion four times during his career. He won these titles all with Red Bull Racing. In the 2013 season alone, he achieved 13 victories. Schumacher's percentage of victories, however, is a bit higher. Namely, he won 13 races out of 18 entries and Vettel 13 out of 19.

1. Max Verstappen

The Dutchman convincingly became world champion for the second time in 2022. Moreover, Verstappen improved a unique record: the highest number of victories in a single season. With his victory in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Verstappen reached fifteen wins. In Mexico, his fourteenth win relegated icon Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel to second place in the rankings. The Dutch driver's dominance in the 2022 Formula One season is also confirmed with the point total of 454.
