Closer than ever: first electric Ferrari

Less than six months ago, former CEO Louis Camilleri said Ferrari would never go all-electric, yet that now seems to be changing. At Ferrari's annual shareholders meeting, top executive John Elkann announced that the first all-electric Ferrari will hit the market in 2025 after all.

Demand for electric increases

Although the company's first hybrid, the SF90 Stradale, proved to be a hit when it was introduced in 2019, the former CEO never seemed convinced about electrification. That same year, the CEO said an electric car would not arrive until the latter part of this decade at the earliest. According to Camilleri, customers struggled with the idea of an all-electric sports car; he could not envision the brand ever becoming all-electric or even 50 percent electric-powered.

During the shareholders' meeting, Ferrari also revealed that the corona crisis has clearly affected the sales of their models. For example, in 2020, 10 percent fewer cars were sold than the record year of 2019. The brand seems to be cleverly capitalizing on the increasing demand for electric cars with an electric variant. Indeed, figures from the carmakers' trade association showed that in Europe, the market share of electric cars increased by more than 59 percent in one year. Ferrari SF90 Stradale

Search for new CEO

For now, Ferrari will not give up its powerful internal combustion engines. But that the electric will come in 2025 is a fact. As for the near future, top executive Elkann hinted that three new Ferraris will make their debut in the coming months.

The development of electric cars and new models is not the only thing Ferrari is focusing on. The company is also redoubling its efforts to find a new CEO. Ferrari hopes that the brand's new CEO, will embrace the electric revolution like no Ferrari CEO has before. Read here an article about the Ferrari Roma.
