A holiday villa, a yacht, a special car, or that one bag that turns out to be worth just a little more than expected: in the summer, valuable possessions often travel with you. And then you want to be absolutely sure that everything is properly arranged. In the run-up to MASTERS SUMMER EXPO, MASTERS speaks with Sandra Nooyen from Het Huis van Verzekeringen about high-end insurance and why a good policy should above all provide peace of mind.
What are the biggest trends in high-end insurance and special assets?
What we clearly see is that there is an increasing need for customization and personal service. Wealthy private individuals and family offices expect an insurance partner who truly thinks along with them regarding risks, assets, and lifestyle. Especially in the summer, when clients travel more frequently or are away from home for extended periods, quick accessibility and direct support become even more important.
In addition, the demand for specialist insurance for special assets and exclusive real estate is growing. Think of luxury homes, holiday villas, yachts, art, exclusive vehicles, and real estate portfolios. In the summer, these types of assets are often used more intensively, which also increases the risk of damage or liability. For example, are your valuables insured abroad as well? And what about when you wear them instead of keeping them in a safe? Or when you go boating or use your hobby car more frequently, for example during rallies?
Prevention and climate risks are also receiving increasing attention. Extreme weather and stricter regulations are making customers more aware. Consider storm damage, flooding, or a home standing empty during the holidays. Consequently, customers are increasingly seeking proactive advice and insurance solutions with broader terms and maximum peace of mind.
You mention maximum unburdening. What does that mean for customers in practice?
Customers primarily seek personal service and complete peace of mind. Of course, they also look at the best premium and good terms, but ultimately, they appreciate most that you are there when it is really needed.
Does your customers' behavior change towards the summer?
“Towards summer, we clearly see that customers start thinking differently about their insurance. There is more focus on second homes abroad, pleasure boating, exclusive cars, and long-distance travel. Above all, customers want to be certain that everything is properly arranged before they leave or start using their assets more intensively. It is precisely during this period that the need for speed and an insurance partner who can act immediately grows.”
What is absolutely no longer acceptable in the insurance world this summer, and what actually is?
What is truly unacceptable anymore is failing to think carefully about your security, or about whether all your valuable possessions are safe and properly insured. Especially when taking items abroad, it is important to know what is and isn't covered. Incidentally, that also applies to what you bring back home.
In practice, we see that policies are not always properly maintained. Insured amounts are sometimes too low, and valuations expire unnoticed.
Insurers are also increasingly viewing bags as collections. As soon as the value exceeds 10.000 euros—and this happens faster than people think—they want more insight into the client's possessions. Exclusive bags are therefore being appraised more and more frequently. The value depends heavily on the condition, just as with watches and jewelry.
It is striking that damage to watches and jewelry is decreasing due to better prevention. In some cases, this can even lead to lower premiums.
What is actually smart, however, is to insure both your home in the Netherlands and your holiday home with us. This can be done under Dutch terms and conditions, and all claims are handled in Dutch. That is certainly convenient if you are dealing with a language barrier.
Especially in the summer, you want to know if your valuables are well insured abroad as well.
MASTERS SUMMER EXPO naturally takes place in Brabant. What does Brabant mean to you?
All our clientele is important to us, in every province. I myself was born in Breda, which is why I feel connected to Brabant. In addition, we also have a branch in 's-Hertogenbosch.
What are you personally looking forward to the most this summer?
For me, the ultimate summer is about a beautiful balance between relaxation, luxury, and quality. Long sunny days, stylish locations, refined dinners, and a good glass of wine form the basis of unforgettable moments. Together with my partner Michiel, this summer is all about spending precious time together and creating memories that last.
Work and pleasure often go hand in hand. In the summer, many inspections take place abroad, including in Spain, France, Portugal, and Italy, where we insure our clients' multi-million dollar villas. If it works out, I always try to add an extra day or two myself to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
What do you hope visitors to MASTERS SUMMER EXPO will come to discover or experience at your venue?
We hope visitors discover that insurance goes much further than simply taking out a policy. Especially when it comes to special assets, such as exclusive cars, art, jewelry, luxury homes, or other valuable objects, it is about customization, expertise, and high-quality service.
We want to demonstrate that true service begins with attention to the customer's lifestyle and wishes. No standard solutions, but guidance from specialists who understand what value means to someone.
In addition, we hope to show visitors how important it is to protect valuable possessions properly and in a future-proof manner. Think of prevention, risk management, and fast, personal support when it matters most, for example in the event of damage.
