Six Senses

Inspired by 'rorbu'

The name of the hotel is Svart, in Old Norse meaning black and blue. Inspired by the perpetual blue summer days and black winter nights illuminated by the breathtaking northern lights.

The design is based on Norway's traditional fishing huts, called 'rorbus', thereforethe 94-room hotel will also be built on piles. The poles also minimize the impact on the surrounding glacier environment.

Not cut down on luxury

Six Senses promises that the property will generate enough solar energy to not only power the hotel, but also generate enough energy for all other activities around the hotel, such as the boat shuttle used to access the hotel. Svart will also be self-sufficient, complete with its own waste and water management, recycling and renewable infrastructure. The restaurant and bar will also have a sustainable touch, working with local suppliers of sustainable products and even the water will be bottled and filtered by Six Senses itself.

Just because the hotel is sustainable certainly doesn't mean cutting back on luxury. The sustainable Scandinavian interior includes an array of earthy and organic materials, as well as artwork that will honor local heritage. The rooms at the hotel are equipped with the latest technology and use the Svart Touch. This non-invasive non-contact system will ensure that the room is fully adapted to the guest's state of mind and health.

In addition to the state-of-the-art rooms, there will also be a focus on history, for example, the Alchemy Bar will highlight regional and traditional healing methods and guests can enjoy delicious scents and scrubs made with local flora and fauna.
