Nature is wild and whimsical, but also soothing and healing. More and more designers are trying to incorporate these qualities into their work. For example, the Swedish design collective Front went into nature to photograph and sketch rocks, trees, lichens and beaches with algae. Through 3D scans, they processed their material into wooden seating objects that invite you to sit or lie down as in nature.Text: Peter van Kester

The nature photos and sketches were also used for the upholstery. This is knitted in the Tilburg textile company Febrik and is composed of a multitude of gray, blue and green yarns. Front designed the Design by Nature furniture collection for Moroso, aiming to bring not only the physical but also the emotional nature of the outdoors inside.
