The cities with the most millionaires

Figures from Henley & Partners, a migration consultancy, revealed that more millionaires are entering the Netherlands than leaving. Interestingly, many millionaires cross the North Sea from the United Kingdom and settle in the Netherlands. In fact, the agency conducted research on where most of the world's millionaires live. MASTERS takes a look at the list and lists the five most wealth-friendly places to live.

5. Singapore

Just below London we find Singapore with 249,900 millionaires. This number is very high considering that the city-state is among the 20 smallest countries in the world. Figures also show that as many as one in six Singaporean households own more than one million US dollars. Another fun fact; Singapore is one of the greenest cities in the world. Despite all the skyscrapers, you will find an amazing amount of nature; almost half of the area is covered with greenery.

4. London

Spot four is closer to home; no fewer than 272,400 millionaires live in this English capital. There is a 9 percent drop in the number compared to last year, perhaps because these millionaires are thus settling on Dutch soil.

3. San Francisco Bay Area

The survey shows that San Francisco Bay Area is 276,400 millionaires rich. This area includes Silicon Valley, among others. Companies like Apple, Facebook, Google and eBay are headquartered here, making this the home of many tech billionaires. There is also a slight increase in the number, compared to last year. In fact, the area is expected to reach a top spot on the list by 2040.

2. Tokyo

Tokyo also appears to be an attractive city for people with more than six zeros in their bank accounts. To be exact, 304,900 millionaires live here. However, the number of billionaires is somewhat smaller than New York, as there are 12 in Tokyo. Major companies in Tokyo include Honda, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Softbank and Sony.

1. New York

At number one on the list is New York with a total of 345,600 millionaires. There are even 59 billionaires living in this city. Perhaps potential buyers for the apartment that MASTERS wrote about earlier... Despite the fact that most of the world's millionaires live in the Big Apple, there is a downward trend in the number in this city.

Netherlands

The survey defines millionaires as those with investable income of US$1 million or more.

In the list, unfortunately, there is no place for the Netherlands. Closer to home we find Frankfurt (spot 13), Paris (spot 20), Geneva (spot 19) and Zurich (spot 15) in the top 20.
