The world's highest-paid tennis players

Despite a hamstring injury, Novak Djokovic managed to win the Australian Open for the tenth time in his career. In doing so, the 35-year-old tennis player simultaneously equaled Rafael Nadal's Grand Slam record. But besides writing history, Djokovic can also expect a substantial credit to his bank account. After all, the prize money amounts to €1.9 million. But who are actually the highest-paid tennis players in the world? MASTERS lists them.

1. Roger Federer

Roger Federer was born in Switzerland and is considered one of the best male tennis players in history. From 2004 to 2007, Federer dominated men's singles tennis. In total, he won 103 singles titles and eight doubles titles, including the Beijing Olympics together with Stanislas Wawrinka. Although he announced his retirement from tennis last year, Federer's annual income off the court comes to €81.8 million. This comes in part from sponsors, including Uniqlo, Credit Suisse and Rolex. He also owns a significant stake in On, the Swiss running shoe brand.

2. Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka is a Japanese tennis player and at the age of 25 has already won four Grand slam tournaments. But off the tennis court, Osaka is also busy with her ventures. For example, she has a media company called Hana Kuma, her own skin care line called Kinlò, a sports management agency Evolve and several sponsorship deals with Nike and TAG Heuer, among others. Through all this, her annual income comes to about €51 million.

3. Serena Williams

Williams is praised for her fighter's mentality on and off the court. She raked in nearly €90 million in prize money during her career. In addition to numerous sponsorship deals with brands such as Nike, Gucci and Michelob Ultra, the tennis star also brings in quite a bit of money from her company Serena Ventures, which has invested in more than 60 startups. Williams' annual income amounts to about €31 .9 million.
