The GASSAN pre-owned collection consists of a range of unique watches; from vintage collectibles to exclusive brands. This week the diamond dealer highlights the two most famous models from Audemars Piguet. It's high time to take a closer look at the Royal Oak and the younger one, Royal Oak Offshore.

The Royal Oak collection has become a true icon in the history of watches. The model, invented by Gérald Genta, was the first stainless steel luxury sports watch in 1972. The Royal Oak is characterized by a hexagonal bezel and visible screws, something we see more often now, but a revolutionary design at the time.
The Royal Oak Offshore collection was later introduced in 1993 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak. This model also has the characteristic bezel, but immediately attracted attention due to the different design, devised by Emmanuel Gueit.
At first glance, the characteristics of Royal Oak (RO) and Royal Oak Offshore (ROO) are similar; after all, they have the same characteristic shapes. However, when you look at them side by side it is clear that the ROO is more robust in both case height and thickness. The first ROO model was even nicknamed The Beast.
The Royal Oak watches are generally slightly more refined in design compared to the Royal Oak Offshore. Apart from the difference in size, Audemars Piguet also likes to use the Offshore line to experiment with more playful designs. The use of materials such as rubber and ceramics is also not avoided.
A decorative tapestry pattern adorns the dial on both models. But here too there are differences: the modern Royal Oak Offshore often uses a more robust and complex Méga tapestry pattern.
