Winter on fire

This intriguing documentary about the struggle for freedom in Ukraine received an Oscar nomination for best documentary. During the freezing winter months of 2013 and 2014, the Ukrainian people revolted: demanding the resignation of President Viktor Yanukovych. Filmmaker Evgeny Afineevsky dared to capture footage with his camera during this noisy period in the midst of the mass demonstrations in Kiev's Maidan Square. Even within the first few minutes, a picture was painted of how intense things were there. A young boy laughingly talks about the corpses he had to drag and also says that nothing surprises him anymore. Shortly thereafter, offscreen, a protester is shot. A compelling documentary that instantly captivates the viewer.
