Whose Votes Counts, explained

November 3, 2020 will be a historic day in America: the Presidential battle between Joe Biden and Donald Trump will take place. This three-part documentary gives an inside look at the American electoral system, as well as all the pros and cons involved. The right to vote is the foundation of American democracy, but despite this, every vote does not count equally. This is due to a historically grown system that ensures that the distribution of all votes among the states is more important than all votes cast combined. Thinking through multiple scenarios will reveal how the distribution of votes could be fairer in the future.

Living on one dollar (amazon)

Four American students travel through Guatemala for 54 days, living on ¢1 a day. They are trying to experience what it is like to live in poverty. The boys come face to face with hunger, disease and stress from the financial situation. Each day the gentlemen draw a lottery ticket that has a number between 0 - 9 on it, and that number determines the number of dollars to spend each day. Sometimes they are lucky, sometimes they have (almost) nothing. They live in a slum, build their own farm to grow their own vegetables and sell them to get a real taste of the culture.

My Octopus Teacher (IMDB)

Professional swimmer Craig Foster swims every day in the sea of South Africa and is fascinated by the underwater world. At one point, he discovers a young octopus in the middle of the kelp forest. He immediately becomes obsessed with the beast, and he decides to swim toward the octopus every day - several hours at a time. They gain each other's trust and Craig is with the creature for more than 365 days in a row. A moving, passionate and compelling documentary about the relationship between humans and animals.
