24H Chefs brings gastronomy and nightlife together

Michelin-starred chefs, DJs, and a view of Amsterdam that never gets old. This coming weekend, the 23rd floor of Hotel Okura Amsterdam transforms into the setting for one of the most extraordinary culinary events of the year.

The sixth edition of 24H Chefs will take place on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7. The event began in 2013 as a spontaneous initiative by chef Tjitze van der Dam and grew in the years that followed into a fixture in the Dutch gastronomic world. During the first edition, €10.000 was raised, while at the previous edition, that amount rose to €195.000.

During this 24-hour charity marathon, top Dutch chefs cook non-stop for War Child and the Princess Máxima Centre Foundation. Every guest who joins contributes directly to the work of both organizations. After deducting costs, the proceeds go entirely to the charities.

The concept is as simple as it is impressive: the kitchen at Ciel Bleu keeps running for 24 hours. Each session consists of a six-course menu, created by three chefs who take turns at the stove. This creates a culinary relay in which dozens of chefs leave their signature on the menu over the course of a day.

The marathon starts Saturday evening with names such as Joris Bijdendijk from RIJKS®, Thomas Groot and Richard van Oostenbrugge from 212, and Bas Brouns from Ron Gastrobar. Later in the evening, Arjan Speelman from Ciel Bleu, Tim Golsteijn from Bougainville, and André Gerrits from 't Amsterdammertje, among others, will take over.

This year, the night in particular takes on a new character. During the Kitchen Party, which continues into the early hours, chefs such as Robin van de Bunt (De Leuf), Guido Braeken, Marco Helsloot (Merlet), Yornie van Dijk (Basiliek), Wouter Kik (Codium), Jef Schuur (Bij Jef), and Kevin Kion and Daniël Damen (MANO) pair their dishes with a musical line-up consisting of DJ Marcello, Phil Horneman of Wicked Jazz Sounds, Djuce, and Moody Mehran. This gives the event a different dynamic compared to previous years, without losing sight of the focus on gastronomy.

The kitchen continues to run at full speed on Sunday as well. During various sessions, Erik and Juliën van Loo from Parkheuvel, Wilco Berends from De Nederlanden, Niven Kunz from Triptyque, Michel van der Kroft from 't Nonnetje, Jan Sobecki from Tribeca, Tom Vinke from De Kromme Watergang, Tsukasa Hagimori from Yamazato, Jan Smink from Smink, and Nelson Tanate from De Librije, among others, will appear behind the stove.
